I think it's best to enjoy pies like this when the fruit is really in season. I think something less would be a disappointment. I made this pie today and it was absolutely wonderful! I've never had a cherry pie like this. I didn't have a cherry pitter, so it took me over an hour to cut and pit the cherries! I'm not sure if the stains are ever going to come out of my finger nails....but it was soooooo worth it! I'm just sad that cherry season is so short. Have you ever tried this with frozen cherries?
