I never refrigerate it, I just keep it at room temp. I don't know any better than you how long it officially lasts (see the FAQ page) but I think it lasts a pretty long time. I am actually getting ready to do another post on it pretty soon because I now have a different recipe I prefer to this one. You can use any frosting you like underneath it. Have fun!

How long does fondant last in the fridge? I'm making a little bit just to decorate some details onto a cake and I want to be able to make it in advance and color it. Also, do you just use your vanilla buttercream as the frosting base for the fondant? Thanks!!!

I'm not sure on either count. It may work, but I wouldn't count on it.

Two questions: 1. Will a regular rolling pin work? 2. I just have a Mixmaster stand mixer without a dough hook, can I still make fondant?

TIA!

Oops, sorry, I thought this comment was on his second birthday cake. Yes, you always have to frost a cake with some sort of frosting before using fondant, otherwise it has nothing to stick to. Is it difficult? Not to me, but some may beg to differ.

Hi Annie,
I have a couple of questions about the fondant. I read your other blog on fondant (the cute birdie & owl cupcakes) but I wanted to know if applying the fondant was more difficult on a cake? and also did you frost the sides of the cake with butter cream frosting before applying the fondant?
